Join us either in-person or virtually by simulcast, for the first ever Clinical OlympicsSM symposium! Attendees will join 1 of 3 countries/teams to compete in a series of clinical events, answering challenge questions on management of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) in solid organ transplant (SOT) patients. Individual learners earn points for their chosen country by correctly answering questions during each event. After each event is completed, and at the conclusion of the overall symposium, a Team Leader Board appears on the big screens to show comparative scores across teams and a Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal will be awarded to countries for each event and for the entire Clinical OlympicsSM.

Renal transplantation is a potentially life-saving treatment for those with renal failure. However, graft rejection remains a problem, and long-term outcomes remain poor with about 40% of kidney transplants failing within 10 years. While chronic graft rejection is pathologically a multifactorial process, recent evidence indicates that chronic active AMR and the resulting transplant glomerulopathy are responsible for most cases, yet there are no approved therapies, which further complicates management. In this symposium, participants will join an esteemed panel to learn, in an interactive, gamified way, the pathophysiology of chronic active AMR, how to establish a diagnosis using histology and emerging biomarkers, and examine therapeutic options in the pipeline for chronic active AMR.

This activity is intended for transplant, nephrology, and general surgery clinicians managing transplant patients with AMR.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Identify the pathophysiology of chronic active antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) that leads to deleterious clinical manifestations in kidney transplant patients
  • Apply Banff diagnostic criteria for chronic active AMR in renal allografts
  • Examine the potential role of emerging therapeutic approaches in the management of chronic active AMR
