TARGET AUDIENCE
This virtual lecture is designed to meet the educational needs of nursing professionals and social workers who are involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma.


ACTIVITY PURPOSE
This activity is intended to educate nursing professionals and social workers about the current and emerging therapy options being utilized to improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with mantle cell lymphoma.


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant will be better able to:

  • Identify current and emerging therapies for mantle cell lymphoma
  • Explain the role of clinical trials in the advancement of treatment for mantle cell lymphoma
  • Review quality of life issues with patients living with mantle cell lymphoma

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION
To complete this activity and receive a Statement of Credit, participants must:

  1. Review all contents of this activity
  2. Complete and submit the Learning Assessment and Evaluation form
  3. Score at least 70% on the Learning Assessment

John P. Leonard, MD, is The Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, New York. In addition, he is Attending Physician at the New York Weill Cornell Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital, and serves as Director of Clinical Research, Division of Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Leonard's research has been published in numerous medical journals, and he is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He serves as the non-Hodgkin lymphoma working group leader for the Lymphoma Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), a multicenter cooperative group of the National Cancer Institute. His primary research interest is in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Much of his work has involved the development of radiolabeled and unlabeled monoclonal antibodies as therapy for lymphoma, vaccine and other immune-based treatments, and other novel therapeutic approaches. Dr. Leonard performed his undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins University and received a medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed his residency in medicine at the New York Weill Cornell Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Cornell, and served as the chief medical resident at the New York Weill Cornell Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Brad S. Kahl, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. He is the Director of the University of Wisconsin Lymphoma Service and Clinical Research Director for Hematologic Malignancies at the Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. He earned a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was elected Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). He completed all postgraduate training at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and was appointed to the faculty in 2000. His clinical interests involve the care of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Dr. Kahl's research focuses on the development of novel treatments for lymphoma patients, with emphasis on the development of targeted therapies. He is the principal investigator of multiple clinical trials at the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. Dr. Kahl serves on the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Lymphoma Core Committee and is the principal investigator of E4402, Rituximab Extended Schedule or Retreatment Trial (RESORT), and E1405, a Phase II study of VcR-CVAD with maintenance rituximab for untreated mantle cell lymphoma.
