Using a Novel CDST to Guide the Assessment and Management of Low-/High-risk Crohn’s Disease

Program Overview

A key challenge in the selection of treatment for patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) is the lack of tools to identify the patients that have the highest likelihood of achieving remission with biologic treatments. Recently a clinical decision support tool (CDST) has been developed using key clinical, imaging, and laboratory markers. This tool is specifically designed for patients with high burden of disease. The tool assesses disease burden, uses risk and clinical/laboratory data to predict outcomes for certain drugs, and includes additional resources explaining how the prediction is calculated. Join Dr. Sandborn in a virtual demonstration of the tool using patient case vignettes.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for clinicians who manage patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply novel, predictive decision support tools to stratify patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) based on complication risk and disease severity in order to inform appropriate treatment initiation and timing
  • Integrate biologics into the treatment regimen for IBD based on individual probability of response to specific biologics
